Description
The updated Blackmagic Micro Converter 3G series offers ultra-compact video conversion between HDMI and SDI connections. These converters are engineered for seamless integration between consumer-grade HDMI devices and professional SDI equipment. Their strong, compact build allows use in tight setups or mobile production. Supporting 3G-SDI connections, they handle both SD and HD resolutions up to 1080p60. Powered via USB, these converters can draw energy directly from a laptop or TV. Versions without power supplies are available. Designed with custom electronics that meet modern global broadcast requirements, these converters also support firmware updates for future compatibility.
USE ANYWHERE
Portable and professional video converters
The Micro Converter line is small enough to carry in any kit, making them ideal for use on set, in live production, or in mobile broadcast environments. Their build quality ensures they perform reliably in high-pressure scenarios. These converters are perfect for transforming computer monitors, TVs, or projectors into broadcast-quality displays. They also make it easy to connect consumer cameras or HDMI laptops to SDI-based systems. For long-distance HDMI signal extension, these converters leverage SDI’s robustness for a professional solution.
MINIATURE DESIGN
Engineered for strength and reliability
These converters deliver top-tier processing technology housed in durable metal casing. Each unit includes full-size 3G-SDI and HDMI connections with reinforced sockets. Power and configuration are managed via USB, compatible with both Mac and Windows through the Blackmagic Converter Utility. Visual indicators provide status for video and power. Optional units come bundled with global power adapters for flexible international use.
BROADCAST PERFORMANCE
High-end results in a small footprint
With precise digital signal processing and a deep colour pipeline, these units ensure stable SDI signal transmission with low jitter, critical for maintaining image integrity across extended cable runs. Supporting 8-bit and 10-bit video in YUV, the converters cover a full range of SD and HD formats up to 1080p60, including film frame rates like 24p and 48p. Embedded audio and timecode support is standard across the board.
UPDATE AND CONFIGURE
Settings can be managed via the free Converter Utility app from Blackmagic Design. This utility connects over USB and works on Mac and Windows systems. Users can rename devices for workflow clarity or assign camera IDs for compatibility with ATEM switchers. The software also allows toggling between 3G-SDI Level A and Level B outputs for enhanced routing flexibility.
3D LUT MONITORING
Colour-accurate preview for any display
The SDI to HDMI 3G version includes built-in 3D LUT functionality for accurate on-set colour preview. LUTs can be applied live and also looped through the SDI output, enabling use as a LUT processor. You can calibrate consumer-grade monitors or TVs for colour grading use. LUTs created in DaVinci Resolve can be imported, allowing for consistent visual looks from shoot to post. This offers powerful, low-cost look management using familiar tools.
CAMERA CONTROL VIA CONVERSION
Integrate HDMI cameras with SDI workflows
The BiDirectional SDI/HDMI 3G model supports full camera control, letting you use HDMI-based Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Cameras with SDI switchers. ATEM switchers transmit control signals over SDI, and this converter translates them to HDMI for the camera, enabling remote control, colour correction, tally, and recording functions. It also works in reverse — allowing SDI cameras to be controlled by HDMI-based switchers such as the ATEM Mini.
TIME CODE SUPPORT OVER HDMI
With redesigned hardware, the Micro Converter 3G range includes advanced features needed for high-end workflows, including HDMI and SDI timecode translation. This ensures accurate sync between HDMI sources and larger broadcast infrastructure. Timecode transmission is supported in both SD and HD formats, making these converters suitable for film, TV, and post-production environments where precision is essential.
SDI RE-CLOCKING
Stable signal over extended cable runs
Built-in re-clocking on the 3G-SDI output restores signal quality, reduces jitter, and enhances signal integrity, extending usable cable lengths. Unlike budget converters that may lack this feature, Blackmagic Micro Converters meet the rigorous standards of SMPTE 259M, 292M, 296M, 424M, and 425M (Level A & B), ensuring compatibility in professional broadcast systems.
EXTENSIVE FORMAT COMPATIBILITY
Micro Converter 3G models support an array of SDI formats: 525i59.94 NTSC, 625i50 PAL, 720p50/59.94/60, 1080p23.98/24/25/29.97/30/47.95/48/50/59.94/60, 1080PsF25/29.97/30, 1080i50/59.94/60, and 2K DCI rates from 23.98p to 60p.
HDMI input/output compatibility includes the same resolution support, including 3G-SDI Level A and B signals.
USB-C OR AC POWER OPTIONS
Flexible powering solutions for production
All models support USB-C power input — the same standard used on most modern computers and phones — making it easy to power directly from the devices in your workflow. Optional AC adapters support worldwide voltages and include plug types for international travel. For mobile setups, smartphone chargers or USB battery packs can keep these converters running wherever you’re shooting.
