Advert Bullet Time Compilation
A quick compilation of all the Bullet Time elements we created for the Nokia adverts
Nokia Bullet Time Advert 1 – Intelligent Care digital moment
Taking over an incredible multi-million pound house in West London, we setup an 84 camera rig on the freshly cut lawn… being VERY careful not to damage it!
The first 24 cameras were set to sequential shooting, ramping down from 50ms delay per camera to 4 ms delay per camera, to show his fall backwards, but then from camera 25 onwards it was static, to show him frozen as you move around the scene.
The scene was for a father to be knocked clearly off his feet by his family, who charge towards him to complain about the lack of wifi data capacity.
We used a crash mat, that was a lot firmer than we expected, as they delivered a safety mat instead. It was like landing on a concrete slab! So 48 takes later, a sore back and then a few blank plate shots without the crash mat in place, we wrapped up.
During the post work we cut away the crash mat and replaced the background with the clean plate shots, frame by frame!

Nokia Bullet Time Advert 2 – Security digital moment
This advert was to show a digital security breach and how Nokia systems and software can help resolve the situation.
We set up the same 84 camera rig, with the first 24 cameras on sequential shooting to show the drop and from camera 25 onwards being frozen.
Being filmed in the London Borough of Newham at a building next to the Excel Arena in London. This was a huge mission, as we were shooting into a full wall window. This meant all lighting was reflecting in the windows and bouncing everywhere it shouldn’t be, you could also see the rig reflected in the window.
It took hours to position and cover the rig so it wasn’t visible in the window!
Nokia Bullet Time Advert 3 – Shoe Factory
This advert was designed to be in a shoe factory, where a custom production order would come in. The workflow, machines and warehouse connected utilising Nokia software gives them the flexibility to quickly adapt to changing customer needs.
This was filmed in York University, in a room that was only JUST big enough to fit the rig in, with about 30cms on each side against the walls. We used the same 84 cameras and sequential to static trigger system, to catch the shoe as it was thrown in the air.
The shoe is not CGI in anyway, yes it has over lays, but it really is as caught in-camera.
Nokia Bullet Time Advert 4 – Communication connection
Filmed in Wimbledon Studios Street set, we created a scene that involved a young woman playing a multi player game on her phone, which could connect as she moved from place to place. Keeping her connected to the internet wherever she went.
In gale force winds, we setup the same 84 camera rig, but had it set to static shot for the entire array of cameras. As we took the last shot, a few drops of rain came down, then more and more until it was an absolute downpour! We covered the rig in a plastic cover and hoped for the best, with water pouring off the lights and other electrics in the area.
It was all saved, we can still use it all again!
